Worlds In Collision

Drawn from the San Francisco Art Institute’s symposia series SOURCES OF A DISTINCT MAJORITY (1989-1991), the papers and transcribed discussions collected in WORLDS IN COLLISION include diverse concerns of artist, activists, academics and street scholars from both ethnically marginalized and mainstream communities throughout the country. These four symposia, organized around issues of multiculturalism, education, identity politics and the role of the arts in contemporary culture, became venues for intense dialogues with broad implications for rethinking the relationships around cultural theory and activist agendas. The nearly 90- participants collectively and collaboratively explore strategies for a progressive art agenda that reflect a more accurate American Art History.
